This post was originally published February 2013. However after an eventful week-end I just did not have the energy to blog. New linky though so please link up and leave some comment love.
Spring is going to be here before you know it! That means it will be time to do the dreaded Spring Cleaning. But this year, let’s mix things up a bit. Instead of just cleaning around the toys, the dog and the clutter, let’s actually make a pact to do some cleaning out instead! Let’s clear some clutter so we’ll have less to clean up next time! Here are 3 things that will make our life easier.
Only Decorate with Half.
Take everything off the shelves. Then only put back half of the stuff. Do the kids still read all 75 board books about Dora and Bob the Builder? Do you really need every picture frame with the last 10 years of school pictures? Next week, I’ll give you some ideas of how to store those school pictures and memorabilia; but for now, just give them a storage place in a back room and clear the shelves in the living area.
Tackle One Spot at a Time
If you have trouble spots with junk, don’t try to do it all today. Tackle one spot each day. Spend about 10 minutes each day on one drawer or counter. Throw out the garbage and only keep the good stuff.
Be willing to Toss or Donate
I keep a box in my garage for donations. When the box is full, I take it to the thrift store. If something is not useful in my life, then it goes into the trash or the donate box. Sometimes I am torn because I want to give something to a friend instead of donate. In theory that is a really sweet thought. But in reality, sometimes it’s not practical. If you have to store something for too long while you’re waiting to share it, you may need to let go and pass it on.
Comment Time: How do you get ready for Spring Cleaning when it is still cold outside? I’d love to hear your tips!
