If you looked at my draft folder for blog posts you would probably want to cry. I currently have approximatley 150 posts sitting in draft mode. There is a good reason for this. When I find ideas for posts I save them as draft so I always will have something to write about. My favourite place to go to get prompts is The SITS Girls. At the beginning of every month they share 30 prompts for you to use to inspire a blog post each day of the month. One of the prompts they are was My Writing Process and well, this is my post inspired by it.
Tell us about your writing process – do you like music or quiet, is there a special place you go to work, do you type from the beginning or write notes with a pen and paper first?

My writing process is very different from how it used to be. Once upon a time I had only 1 child and he napped every day from 12:30 to 3:30. This was my blogging time. I would put him down for a nap, grab a cup of coffee and head to the office to write about our latest adventures. I got a lot of writing down back then and always had more time than I needed.
Four years later we have moved and I no longer have an office. I have a basement but it is unfinished so Tobei and I both bought laptops and turned our kitchen table into our desks. I now have 2 children and neither of them nap. Lucky for me they are at least pretty independent so mommy can get some work down.
However I still only blog during the day if I have a deadline that I have to meet. Otherwise my days are spent working on emails and social media since they require less of my full attention allowing me to get up as needed to deal with the children and not worry about losing my train of thought. I try to keep my actual writing to once they are in bed snoring away.
My writing process is pretty simple and straight forward. Goes a little something like this.
Step 1 – Grab a cup of coffee. This momma doesn’t do anything without her secret lover caffeine.
Step 2 – Load up the tunes. My favourite is the 90’s channel on Sirius. Leave the volume at a respectable level but loud enough to drown out Tobei’s mouse clicking.
Step 3 – Load up my content calendar and see what is on the “menu” for the day. My content calendar is not written in stone. It is flexible so if the planned topic for that day isn’t inspiring me I move it out and move something that does inspire me into its spot.
Step 4 – Find the perfect picture. The perfect picture again needs to inspire me. It also needs to inspire YOU the reader to want to keep reading as it is what I will be sharing on pinterest. My go to place for pictures is Kozzi. (BTW if you click that link and sign up via it you and I both get 10 free credits and one picture the size for a blog costs 0.5 credits.)
Step 5 – WRITE! Seriously I just write. Let the fingers flow and a post appears. People think I am weird as I don’t plan, I don’t have a jot form list of what I want to say. I just let it flow. That doesn’t work for everyone but it works for me.
What is your writing process? How do you craft your blog posts?
