Fitness is extremely vital to your overall health, but it can be costly to own a gym membership. Then, if you factor in the gas money to get to a gym, on top of childcare if you need it, it turns into quite the extra monthly payment. If you want to work out, but you’re not sure if you can afford the cost of a monthly membership at a gym, have no fear! There are plenty of ways to work out for free!

1. Running.
Running is free, other than the cost of running clothes. Although a good pair of running shoes is a decent chunk of change, it’s not a monthly payment, so it’s definitely worth the investment. Just grab some sneakers, get to running, and enjoy your free work out!
2. Circuit Training.
Circuit training is a great way to get in an excellent work out without having to pay. Essentially, you go to a park or use your backyard if you have enough room, and set up stations. At each station, you do an exercise, whether it be a certain number of reps or for a set amount of time (ie. 25 squats or jump rope for 30 seconds). You rotate throughout these stations and complete a circuit. Typically you do two or three circuits depending on how many stations you have set up.

3. Hiking.
Hiking is a great work out, even if you just do a short hike. Most places allow you to hike for free, although keep in mind that some places charge for parking. So make sure you double check before you head out for a hike.
4. YouTube videos.
There are hundreds of work out videos on YouTube! From yoga, to pilates, to cardio training, there’s just about any category of work out you can possibly think of. Granted, you have to take some of them with a grain of salt and realize that anyone can upload, but there are some done by physical trainers and even some by Jillian Michaels!
5. Swimming.
Swimming is a great work out, especially for anyone who may have experienced an injury. If you have a community pool nearby, it’s worth a shot to get in there and swim some laps. It’s a fantastic way to get some good cardio in.
6. Dancing.
Some places offer line dancing classes and every now and then they offer a free class! Line dancing is extremely fun and a great work out! There are also Zumba classes, jazz and ballet classes, and even just places that have a dance floor. Dancing is not only fun, but a great work out!
All of these are great options for someone who is budget conscious and wants to work out for free!
