If you have been following my Homemaker Monday series you can see we have spring on the mind. I am pretty sure we are not alone. At this point in time everyone is staring death glares at the snow still on the ground. So when Walmart Canada reached out to me and asked me to accept their Spring Cleaning Challenge I quickly wrote back YES! I needed this challenge to give my butt that kick it needed to start my deep spring cleaning.
I looked around the house and thought to myself. What can I do as part of this challenge. What room do I want to go to walmart and shop for in this #springinspiration challenge. Then it hit me, the one area I NEVER EVER EVER organize or really clean. The dreaded front hallway whose closets are the graveyard for many of the things that are dropped at the front door.
This is what the hallway looked like pre Walmart Canadas spring cleaning challenge.
Are you scared? I know I am, such a small area with so much crap crammed into it. You don’t even want to look inside the other half of the closer or in that bench.
The Shopping Trip
So off to Walmart I went with a plan in mind and the $100 maximum I was allowed to spend. I had already been on to walmart.ca to have an idea of what I wanted to do. You see this was during the 2 months Tobei was away. I got a babysitter and had a very short window to get my shopping done.
So what did I buy to fulfil my desires for this challenge you ask?
First I headed over to where they keep all their cute little storage bins and picked me up 3 of these. I wanted 4 but taxes made the fourth one be out of my budget.
Neatfreak Small Storage Bin – Modern Floral $9.97
I then needed a new shoe rack. The one we currently have is so flimsy and falling apart. This proved to be a challenge due what I needed. I needed something that would hold both adult shoes and child shoes. Something that would not be too tall so we could still hang jackets. Something that had drainage space and something that was small enough to also fit in the smaller closet. I finally settled on these which ended up being PERFECT for what I needed. I bought 3 of them. 2 for the regular closet and 1 for the “military” closet.
Mainstays Stacking Shelf – $5.97
Next on my list was hangers. We have a total mismatch of them in the front closet and none of them are meant for coats. They are all regular clothing hangers from our bedroom closet. I really needed them back in the bedroom as we were now lacking hangers there. I managed to score 2 packs of these hangers which will totally get the job done in the front hall.
Neatfreak 10PK Heavy Duty Coat Hanger – $6.97
Last but not least on my list was some kind of wall coat hook contraption. Yes that is what I wrote on my list as I had no clue what it was called. I wanted this so it would be easier for Big Brother to have a place to hang his jacket and school bag after school instead of just throwing his stuff on my floor. I was so happy when I came upon this gorgeous wall mounted hook rack. Sadly I can not find a picture of it on their website but you can see it hanging under my white board in the after pic. I scored that for $19.98
Grand total after all was said and done, including tax $92.37.
Spring Cleaning Challenge Results
So what do you think? I am super impressed and love my front hallway now. Even the smaller closet looks all pretty. I am not longer afraid to have a guest go to hang their coat afraid something may fall on them when the open the door.
What are you most looking forward to when it comes to your spring cleaning?
