3 Tips to Get Your Child To Sleep In The Summer

So we have already tackled how to cure kids summer boredom and how to be productive and entertain the kids at the same time. The other big one we have not tackled when it comes to summer and kids is how to get your child to sleep in the summer.

I don’t know about you but I know as the days started getting longer my son would argue with me that it was not time to sleep because the sun was still awake. We never did change his bed time. I don’t care what the sun looks like, I only care what the clock says. There is no 100% way to get your child to sleep. Every child is different and every family is different. This is just me sharing what has worked for our family.

Tips To Get Your Child to Sleep

  1. Darken the bedroom. You can buy black out curtains or be cheap like me and hang a garbage bag or dark curtain in the room. This will make the room darker and your child will be more likely to go to sleep. This will also hopefully help them sleep in and not wake up with the sun.
  2. Have a routine and stick to it as best you can. For us that means bath, teeth and bed.
  3. Give them a warning. We tell him when the clock reads 7:30 it is bedtime. I try to remind him that after “this show” it is bed time. This way he knows and it is not a surprise.

Those are the top three things we do and they work for us. For even more ideas Disney Junior has an exclusive bedtime focused article “Summer Sleep” by Dr. Nicky Cohen in the parents section of the website. While their have a look around and see all the educational and interesting articles they have for parents.

As always if you have a great tip for what has worked to help get your children to sleep please share them in the comment section. If we don’t learn from one another who will we learn from. Parenting is trial and error. Kids DO NOT come with an instruction manual.
