They say a 4 year olds imagination is a wonderful thing. However I am living proof that it is not always so wonderful.
The other night I had just finished reading Big Brother a bedtime story when he asked me to sleep with him. I told him it wasn’t yet mommys bed time and that I was not sleeping with him. Mommy sleeps in her own bed.
My sweet little boy then put giant stuffed animals over his head and said “Ok I will hide under my animals while I sleep instead”. I asked him why he would do this and he told me so that the monsters can’t find him. WHAT!!! Monsters???
I told him there were no such things as monsters and he told me yes there was and they lived in Africa. So I then asked him how they would get in his room and he told me he didn’t know. I explained to him that there was no such things as monsters and he would be ok. His reply, “Ok but I am going to sleep under my animals anyways”. He then told me good night and he went to sleep.
This was two nights ago and I have not heard about the monsters since. I really hope this was only a one time thing. Mommy doesn’t feel like breaking out the monster repellent but I will if I have to.
Have you gone through this phase with your kids? How did you handle it?
