Well, we did it. We finally moved! After writing about the highs and lows of house hunting I thought we were never going to find somewhere to live. One night while I was supposed to be sleeping I decided to browse online for homes. I stumbled upon a listing that fit ALL our needs. I booked an appointment for my mom and I to go see it the next day.
We fell in love with the house right away. The finishes were beyond any expectation I ever had. The front entry had custom tile inlay that was gorgeous. The main floor has gorgeous cherry wood floors with a custom inlay around the edges. Don’t even get me started on the fridge. I may or may not have hugged it and told the realtor I was leaving my mark on MY fridge. LOL!
When I could picture my children sitting at the breakfast bar eating their cereal I knew I had to have the home. I asked the agent what the interest was like and how many showings she had that weekend (we were seeing it on a Thursday). She told me she had 6 showings booked for the weekend. I was starting to feel like we would lose another home that we loved. I explained to her how we lost out on another home due to moving dates and we really wanted this home. She told me if I could have the paperwork signed by 3 pm she could try to have the agreement ready for us by 4.
I did my best to obey the speed limit as I drove to Tobei’s work. I called him on my way and said to meet me outside in 15 minutes to sign paperwork. I brought him paperwork that wasn’t even filled out, showed him pictures from the website and I think I may have yelled at him to sign it right now. Thankfully my husband trusts me and loves me because he signed the blank paperwork and went back to work. By 2:30 the agent had all our paperwork and by 3:30 the landlord has accepted our offer to lease and at 2 pm the next day we had signed our lease. We gave our notice to vacate our current home and started packing.
I will say this has not been an easy move. We had an awful experience with Uhaul and we are still arguing with them. They pretended to care on twitter but once taken to private message we started to hear crickets. My credit card has now been overcharged by $100. Then came the complete and total nightmare of our march out (what they call a move out in military housing). After 4 days and being charged $774 over total bullshit we are out of there. We are now starting that complaint process as well.
Needless to say, I am now broke, very angry and tired. However, we all are very happy to be in our new home and looking forward to the memories we will create. Stay tuned for future posts where I detail the hell we are going through with Uhaul and military housing.
