My husband is one of those people who you should be scared of when he is bored. The internet was made for his kind. He likes to get lost in reddit, youtube etc. The other night he came across the Mandela Effect. I lost him for hours to his computer and then we ended up staying up past sunrise discussing everything he had read about that blew his mind.
What is the Mandela Effect?
The “Mandela Effect” is what happens when someone has a clear memory of something that never happened in this reality.
Still wondering what this is all about? Here are a few examples that had our minds blown so to speak….
- Berenstein or Berenstain Bears? While Tobei and I both recall it as Berenstein Bears it is actually Berenstain.
- Life IS like a box of chocolates…” or “Life WAS like a box of chocolates…”? We swore it was IS but it was really WAS.
- Snow White: “Mirror mirror on the wall…” is not what the queen says. She actually says “Magic mirror on the wall…”
- Febreeze ~ I got all kinds of Febreeze products in my home. Or at least I thought I did. I actually have Febreze products.
- The Northpole!
This one is where Tobei and I had an arguement about. He swears it is all a conspiracy and there was a land mass in the North that housed the North Pole. He could look on a map and see the mass. I argued back there was never a land mass there and that this pole was just at the Northern most piece of land. Thank you Wikiepedia for letting me win this argument that there was never land up there.
The last big one for us that night was The Lords Prayer. Tobei was raised Catholic. Catholic school, church every Sunday and studying the bible. I was raised to be a good person, god is real but never did the church thing. However we both remembered the Lords Prayer the same way….
Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
The power, and the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.
However in the King James version of the bible which is the one Tobei says he was raised with it goes as follows…
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen
So is it debts or tresspass?? We could not find the answer. So then I went to my sons school agenda, in the agenda the answer is trespass. This is the biggest one that stuck with me from our conversation before it went off in weird directions.
Well I am happy to say that thanks to writing this blog post I have found my answer. According to Wikipedia The Lords Prayer entry, they are both correct. All depends which version of the bible and/or religion you are following. Glad to have that one answered.
So do any of the few I listed hit home for you? Have you looked into this “Mandela Effect” thing before?
