Do your children get up before the crack of dawn? Big Brother used to. Do you set an alarm on school days only to have them wake you up 15 minutes before the alarm goes off? Again, Big Brother used to. Do you wish your kid would get the concept of time and sleep? We all do.
Well let me tell you about Gro-Clock. This clock seriously rocks.
I had my eyes on this clock for a few months after someone else mentioned it to me. However in my lovely pregnant state I never got around to actually searching for it or buying it.
The concept of the Gro-Clock is actually quite simple. When it is still time for your child to be sleeping the clock shows a star. Just like you see in the picture above. The little stars going around it fade away as it gets closer to the time to get up. Once it is time to get up the star changes to a sun. Your child then knows this means s/he can get up now.
There is the option to display the time under the star/sun for if you are teaching your child actual time. It also works as a regular alarm and you have the option to set an alarm to actually go off if you choose to. Great if you have a heavy sleeper who needs to be woken up for school.
My Review
I love this clock. Just want to get that out of the way. It has been a great addition to our home and I wish I had gotten it sooner.
We first set it up on a Friday and told Big Brother all about waiting for the sun before he came out of his room. Saturday morning was a bust. He came into our room about an hour before the sun was to appear. We let it go and Tobei got up with him. Once the sun was actually on the clock we brought Big Brother back into his room to show him the sun. This way he knew that the sun did come up. You just had to wait for it.
Sunday morning was adorable. I woke up about 15 minutes before the Gro-Clock was set to turn to the sun. I sat in bed listening to Big Brother in his room. I heard him get out of bed and look at the clock then say “Nope no sun yet” and then heard him crawl back into bed. Seriously it was so cute. Sure enough the second the sun appeared he came running in our room yelling “The sun is up! The sun is up!”. This may work after all.
Monday morning was the morning I went into labour. You would think the panic going on around our house as we got ready to leave would cause Big Brother to get out of bed. It didn’t thanks to the Gro-Clock. He did wake up and came out to see what was going on. We explained that mommy was going to have the baby and that someone was on the way to get him off to school while we were at the hospital. He said “Ok, Good luck, I’m going to stay in my room until the sun comes up” and that was all we heard from him. We found out from Tobei’s friend that Big Brother did in fact go back to sleep and came out of his room when the sun was up.
Since then we haven’t had many issues with him getting up too early. He did figure out how to make the sun appear on his own so we have since set the alarm portion and told him he has to wait for the sun and the beep before he gets up. It is working and we are loving it.
If you have a child who gets up way too early and doesn’t grasp the concept of time yet I highly recommend the Gro-Clock.
