Gnomeo and Juliet + Canadian Forces = 2 things that do not go together. However Cineplex Odeon thinks that they do.
As I mentioned yesterday, today we were going to brave the theatre with Little Man. We went to see Gnomeo and Juliet and I now know what everyone is raving about. What a cute movie and the kids loved it. All of them that were present. There were 2 birthday parties and then many families including my own.
Little Man was an angel. I could not believe how well behaved he was and how much he enjoyed the movies. We will definitely be going back to the movies with him and it can now become something else we can do as a family.
Now here is my problem. Like I mentioned the theater was pretty much full. Average age of children in attendance was I would say 4. I am not one of those parents who is shocked easily or who shields my child away from everything not rated family. However I do use common sense. No CSI, no anything that airs after 8pm and I don’t watch the news with him. I decided the I Am Your Gummy Bear CD
was not for us due to the nature of some of the songs on it and we do change the radio frequently when songs are not appropriate for a 13 year old let alone a 3 year old.
OK I am going off topic here. So here is my problem. We are sitting at the theatre, lights go low and here come the commercials and previews. What is the first thing we get to see (remember we are watching Gnomeo and Juliet)? That would be this commercial.
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZhGx3AREcw&w=480&h=390]Seriously?? I am watching Gnomeo and Juliet with my 3 year old. We are surronded by kids aged 3-7 and I am watching a commercial titled Fight with the Canadian Forces. Am I the only one out to lunch and find this a tad inappropriate for the audience it is airing in front of?
Edited: I have contacted Cineplex Odeon about my concern with the appropriateness of this commercial on a G rated film.
Update: I forgot to come update way back when. Cineplex did reply to my e-mail and said that it was aired by mistake and they will make sure it does not happen again. They agree it was not to be shown on a G rated movie.
