Yesterday 61.4% of Canadians went and had their say when it comes to our country. Of course you can count me in as one of them. As the results came rolling in last night I had a few thoughts/opinions and figured I would come post them. Why? Because I can 😉
So to get to the biggest question of last night. The Conservatives won a majority government. I am neither happy nor sad about this. We went to an election because the Conservatives lost in a non-confidence vote. The NDP/Liberals/BQ wanted to see Stephen Harper taken out of the role as Prime Minister. Well didn’t that come and bite them in the ass. The conservatives now have a majority government, the liberals lost tons of seats and the BQ got crushed by the NDP’s in Quebec.
All I had to say on election night was that we better not get yet another minority Conservative government. We have seen it doesn’t work and nothing gets done as all the other parties are too busy whining. Stephen Harper now got his majority. Time to shit or get off the pot. Prove yourself, respect Canadian wishes and do something with our government. You can no longer blame you getting nothing done on the fact that the other parties won’t work with you. You have the majority now.
The NDP formerly known to me as the little party that never will, has actually become the opposition. Thanks in large part to Quebec. I say the same to Jack Layton. Time to shit or get off the pot. You talked a good game and now the public is asking you to walk the walk as well. Don’t take the votes for granted. Prove to us why you got them.
Now for some random thoughts from watching the coverage last night. They are not many as bed called my name and I answered.
- Gilles Duceppe, can’t stand him. However that has a lot to do with I am so sick of the Quebec being its own country crap. Just my $0.02. Glad to see him resign and glad to see his party go down as well.
- To rephrase what I mentioned earlier in this thread. This was my facebook status last night. It got many “likes” so at least I know I am not alone. “It is what it is.I am laughing and I am crying. See what your non confidence vote did? Are you proud of yourself now?”
- I smiled while watching Elizabeth May give her speech last night. It was a great day in history for her and the Green Party.
- Liberals, take the hint and regroup now. Stop trying to get power until you have dealt with your own party and get yourselves sorted out.
So there you have it. My random thoughts and opinions on last night. Though I am not celebrating the results I am also not whining. It is what it is. Time to see what will happen. Do I agree 100% with the platform of the winning party. Of course not. Do I agree 100% with any party? Still the answer is no. No party is perfect. Let’s just hope we don’t get screwed over too badly. I prefer to look for the good right now. That being that every promise Stephen Harper has made in the past that I cared about he actually stuck to it. My only main concern is he better not try to give us a 2 tier health care system and if he does it gets stopped quickly. That is NOT what Canada stands for.
