Well Christmas sure was a whirlwind this year. It all started last Wednesday. I heard that we were going to be getting hit by a giant snowstorm on the Friday. So I went out that night and finished all our shopping. I thought I was done before that but while wrapping presents Tuesday night realized I needed a few more gifts.
We sat all comfy in our house Thursday ready to ride out the snowstorm. We made sure to send teachers gifts with Big Brother to school that day and gave his bus drivers there gifts. I wished them all a Merry Christmas and said see you in the new year. I knew this kid was not going to school on Friday.
Sure enough Friday hits and we got tons of snow. The school bus was cancelled and we were not going anywhere. We had a huge tree branch down in the front yard and another branch hanging out in our backyard. We even had a tree leaning on what I thought was the power lines. The tree is still there leaning on the lines. I called the hydro company and they came out only to find out the lines belong to the telephone company. Cool at least we don’t need to worry about it being a danger to us.
Friday afternoon our phone rings and it was Tobei’s aunt. His mom had a heart attack in the middle of the night and was in the hospital. We felt so useless and helpless as we couldn’t get to her. We would have been there in a heartbeat if we could but there was way too much snow.
Saturday we got up first thing in the morning and sent the kids off to our friends house. We then hopped in the car and drove the 3 hours to his mom. It was so nice to see her and was a huge relief for both of us to know and see with our own eyes that she was ok. We were only able to stay for an hour as we had to get back on the road to pick up the boys from the sitter and get them home for bed.
Sunday we wake up and Big Brother has a fever. I spent all day worried about him as he would not leave the couch and barely ate. I was really hoping he would be ok for Christmas. Just before bed time he had a couple of freezes then was dancing around the living room singing Christmas carols. My big boy was going to be ok.
Along comes Monday, Christmas Eve. We get a phone call from Tobei’s brother that mom had a test done and they found a blockage. Good news is they were able to clear it. She should be out of hospital boxing day or the day after. My mom was here with us and the plan was for us all to go to church. This was my first Christmas going to church and I was really looking forward to it. Mom ends up with a headache and is worried about it turning into a migraine so she stays home with Little Brother and the rest of us head off to church.
Church was so cute. It was the family service and they Sunday school kids put on a pageant. Well most of them, Big Brother wanted nothing to do with it. I really enjoyed the service and the pageant. One thing I learned during this service was how thankful I am for Sunday school. Big Brother was driving me crazy. “When are they going to stop singing?” “Is church over yet?” “This is boring”. I eventually sent Tobei off with Big Brother to the Sunday school room where all the other kids were anyways.
I get home and ask mom how her headache is doing. I really wanted to go to the 11pm service as it was going to be a candle light one and I wanted to check it out. Sadly mom had now started a migraine. She was in so much pain and there was nothing I could do for her. Needless to see I did not make the 11pm service. Maybe next year.
Christmas morning arrives YAY! I end up awake an hour before my kids who never sleep in but did Christmas morning. When they finally wake up we find out Little Brother now has a fever. WTF! We spent all day battling his fever and him feeling like complete crap. We did get some great news though in the afternoon. We found out they were releasing Tobei’s mom from the hospital. As I type this she is a free woman.
Needless to say this past week has been pretty crazy. I am looking forward to putting my feet up and relaxing. Hopefully when we wake up tomorrow everyone feels better and we can be over whatever is causing these fevers. Would like to enjoy some of our holidays together as a healthy family.
