I have a friend who is trying to sell her house. She tries to keep her house ready to show in less than 30 minutes. I have to admit that sounds a little tough. But there are a few tricks that she uses to make sure her house stays ready for a showing anytime.
Clean dishes after meals
This is a tough one for most people. After the time spent preparing and serving supper, the last thing many moms want to do is clean the kitchen. This is where the family can get involved. Kids can easily clear the table, put the food items in the refrigerator and refill the dish washer. This leaves Mom (or Dad) available to do the rest of the cleaning – pots and pans, heavy items and finishing the other food items. If the kitchen gets cleaned after every meal, then the most time consuming duty stays done.
Do Laundry Regularly
If you have kids, you know how much laundry you accumulate. Since laundry takes time, this chore has to be an ongoing task. Once it piles up on the floor, then you are already behind the game.
Do a Blitz with Kids
Kids are able to do more than we often give them credit for. Even at a young age, they can help ‘blitz’ the house. Set a timer for 15 minutes and get everyone involved in picking up stuff as fast as they can put it away. By making it a family activity, things get put back in place and everyone gets the benefit of working together.
Have One Clean Zone
In some homes, the clean zone is the center counter. That area must stay clean at all times. Other houses have an entry room where clutter is off limits. By having one clean zone in your house, you can always see something that is ready for company. Let this clean zone inspire you to pick up junk in other parts of the house.
Do you have tricks to get your house clean in a jiffy? I’d love to hear!
