A childs imagination is a wonderful thing. It seems as we grow up we forget all about the care free days where we used to play pretend.
Tobei was actually worried about Big Brothers imagination for awhile. Pretend did not exist in Big Brothers world. A toy was only what it actually was, it could not be anything else. If we tried to play pretend with him he would correct us on our usage of whatever item we were playing with. Tobei used to try to pretend that the car was a rocket ship. This never went well and Big Brother would always get mad at us and yell “NO! It’s a car”. This was coming from a 4 year old. What the heck??
We finally dropped the idea of pretend play to save our sanity and to keep from Big Brother getting really mad at us. Then it was like a switch went off and he finally got it. We got in the car last week to head home from the grocery store and Big Brother announced that we were in a boat. SWEET! I am totally going to play along. As we drove through the parking lot other cars were sharks and fish and the road was actually water. I could not help but smile and enjoy the moment as my son finally accepted pretend play and shared with us his imagination.
Then a couple of days ago he built our cat a house. He called excitedly for me to come downstairs to check out it out. Of course I had to come see. At first I cringed at the mess he had made but in a second I got over it and listened as my little boy proudly showed me all the different rooms of the cats house.
Toby’s House
His Bedroom (You can see his bed under the “roof” he made)
The Bathroom
The Kitchen
Like I said he finally gets it and we are so happy. Of course we did leave me cringing for about an hour before we made him dismantle the cat house as we had to let imagination run. No way were we going to squash it.
Speaking of imagination have you seen what is going on over on Disney Junior this month? Every Friday in the month of November is celebrating one of our favourite Disney characters with TinkerBell Fridays. Every Friday they are airing a different TinkerBell movie for us all to enjoy. Make sure to check it out especially if TinkerBell holds a special place in your heart like she does in children and adults alike.
